Under the Pressure Equipment Regulations, only an authorised person may install or remove a gas appliance or system. That person, or an approved inspection authority, must issue a certificate of conformity after an installation, modification, alteration or change of user or ownership. Authorised persons are registered with SAQCC Gas for the scope of work they do.
When Do I Need One?
- New gas installations. A new hob, stove, geyser or fireplace.
- Alterations. Moving the cylinders, extending piping or adding an appliance.
- Selling the property. A change of ownership triggers a new certificate.
- Letting. A change of user, such as a new tenant, is also listed in the regulations.
- Insurance. Some insurers ask for it after a claim or when a policy starts.
