Regulation 12 of the Electrical Machinery Regulations, 2011, requires every user or lessor of an electric fence system to have an electric fence system certificate. It is issued by a registered electric fence installer after inspecting the whole system, from the energiser to the fence line and signage. It is separate from the electrical certificate of compliance for the house.
When Do I Need One?
- New electric fence installations. Certified when the system is commissioned.
- Alterations. Extending the fence, adding zones or replacing the energiser.
- Property transfer. Required when ownership changes, including for fences installed before October 2012.
